Make Your Online Job Application Stand Out

Make Your Online Job Application Stand Out Make Your Online Job Application Stand Out 23You’re super busy filling out online job applications when you realize that most of the information you’re being asked for already appears on your resume. Thing is, you don’t want your resume and cover letter to be a carbon copy of each other. Avoid having your applications all sound the same- and get called in for a job interview- with these tips for making an online job application stand out. Don’t copy and paste. After filling out applications for hours, even you’re tired of writing down all your accomplishments. So while you might be tempted to do a little Ctrl C and then Ctrl V, don’t copy and paste your answers. It will reflect negatively on your application. Each job application should be carefully crafted for the specific job that you’re applying for; by cutting and pasting, you are showing a potential boss that you didn’t care enough to finish filling out the online job application to the best of your ability. Be descriptive. There might be only so many ways for you to describe all of your previous job duties, but when you are filling out an application, you need to make it sound exciting and new. By repeating the same wording over and over again, you’ll surely bore your prospective boss. So fancy it up a bit- change the structure of your sentences and add more descriptive wording. You’ll make your accomplishments sound even greater and you’ll entice a hiring manger to take your application more seriously. Add extra information. Think of your resume like Twitter. You only have a limited amount of characters and space to get your point across- and win over an HR manager. Utilize the expansive space of a job application to flesh out any ideas or expand upon some of your previous work history and workplace skills. Include any new relevant information that couldn’t fit into your resume, and be sure to spotlight key points by using bold or italics. Job hunting is a time-consuming, arduous process. But by cutting corners and slapping together an application made from your resume, you are shortchanging yourself out of the potential opportunity to be called in for an interview. So take a little extra time to customize your online job application so that it represents you in the best, most professional light possible.
